The Evil of Carbohydrates (?)

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

By Brian Johnston In recent years, carbohydrates have been labeled as the nutrition bad guy because of the increases in insulin that occurs during metabolic processes. The secretion of insulin is dependent primarily upon the concentration of blood glucose an increase of blood sugar brings about an increase in the secretion of insulin. Therefore, one function of insulin is to lower glucose. Conversely, the body increases blood glucose levels by secreting another hormone called glucagon. If blood glucose levels remain high, and that energy source is not burned shortly after it is consumed, the excess glucose is shuttled off to the muscles for storage. If the muscles have reached their limit in storage capacity, and the body does not require extra glucose to sustain body activities, the excess converts to fat. Also, as insulin efficiently clears the blood of excess sugar, blood sugar levels oftentimes dip below normal and will produce the infamous sugar blues or a ‘downer’, followed by a possible craving for more sugar consumption. Lastly, while insulin levels are high or active, the body will not burn fat as energy since the body is attempting to utilize as much blood sugar as possible. (Note that fat is not used as a primary energy source while eating an energy-sufficient, healthy diet and fat is used more heavily only during periods of fasting and extensive aerobic-type exercise.) Hence, high-fat-low-carb advocates claim that we should not want: 1) Excess carbs to turn into fat (what do they think happens to excess fat and protein kcal?); 2) To feel groggy with low energy from the insulin ups and downs associated with high carbohydrate (sugar) consumption; and 3) High carbs in the diet since they prevent us from burning body fat. Although these factors are true, the extent or magnitude of their validity varies in accordance to a number of conditions, such as: i) How active is the individual? ii) How many kcal is the individual ingesting (including carbs) per meal? iii) What comprises an individual’s food and carbohydrate intake? HOW ACTIVE ARE YOU? The more active a person, the more carbohydrate he or she should consume. Also, the greater the physical activity, the less insulin the body produces since muscles become insulin sensitive after exercise and glucose tolerance improves as a result. The Food Guide/Pyramid recommends about 50% of kcal in the average individuals diet to be in the form of carbohydrate. Therefore, if a person is very active, the amount should be increased to about 60% since nearly every activity uses a great deal of blood glucose and muscle glycogen for energy, but only a smaller percentage of fat. In fact, athletes who consume a high-carb diet (60%) can maintain higher-intensity exercise longer than those following a low-carb diet ( buy xanax 2mg buying xanax online buy xanax without prescription online xanax

Dieting as a Team Sport: Reduce the Fat, Increase the Love

Monday, November 26th, 2007

By R. E. Masa, Ph.D. In an era of growing obesity around the world, weight loss is a matter of health and it can be a matter of life and death, especially for a relationship! While the genders may vary, it is quite common for one spouse to lose interest in the other due to increased weight gain. One classic illustration played out on the Oprah Winfrey show, where a (quite pudgy!) cruelly judgmental husband proceeded to say the most insulting and debilitating things to his wife who happened to be heavier than him. He claimed to be trying to help her. He said he wanted her to improve, but this pattern of criticism and insult had gone on for years and it was clearly not helping the dieting goals of either person! And it was about to destroy the marriage it was supposed to improve. When one partner in a relationship begins to demand change from another, it creates an opposition that may be more damaging to the relationship than the behavior it attempts to correct. First, correct the relationship alliances, then approach the behaviors in question. In most cases, it would do far more good to join the heavy person in a mutual eating revolution than to stand apart and criticize them. Many people eat or drink or smoke excessively as a means to reduce anxiety and while changing behavior might benefit them any approach that increases anxiety risks making both the problem and the relationship worse. One psychological secret of relationship is that partners almost invariably mirror each other’s psyche at many levels. One may eat too much while their thin partner smokes too much or has bouts of anger that are out of control. Given this mirroring, a wise approach to change is “If you see something in your partner that you don’t like– change it in yourself. This reduces the mirrored effect with no criticism or focus on the partner. It models self-control which is the best form of behavior change. Throughout history, the greatest teachers are not those who want to be the master over someone else but those who can master themselves! Whenever we try to change another person, we create an opposition that invites competition and resentment. When we try to control another’s behavior we activate a basic resistance to being told what to do. Being told what to do puts the teller in a position of power and dominance over the recipient, and invites rebellious behavior. When told to lose weight, many spouses immediately gain weight in order to prove their independence and save self respect. If we join our partners in self improvement, we can create a team approach in which no one need to feel inferior, or be controlled by another person. Each person can contribute to the team effort and mutual encouragement and mutual success can strengthen the bonds. How we define the boundaries of the group make all the difference. It strengthens my resolve to have an ally in change, while it distracts my focus to resist both my own habits and someone who is trying to control me. If both partners need to lose weight, why not mutually study the issues and create a shared approach to shopping, cooking and dieting that brings both together rather than antagonizing both. Criticism is a negative force in any relationship and it generates negative reactions that do not further the positive goals of weight loss. If one party needs to lose more weight than the other, they can simply adapt portion sizes to suit each individual, rather than isolate and stigmatize the heavier person as the only one needing to change. Avoid the sort of forces which have often contributed to overeating in the first place. Creating a loving, supportive, team effort is much more likely to engage loyalty and activate a desire to please the other, which can help in losing weight. And if only one person has the weight problem, there is likely to be a mirror of excess somewhere else in the picture. While one person cuts back on the calories, the other could count and reduce the number of cigarettes, or the frequency of anger outbursts or maybe just the frequency of criticisms that can poison the relationship. Don’t let “self improvement” goals become an excuse for abuse that can divide and conquer both parties. Form a team with both parties on the same side! Your Best Body Cleansing Detoxification Program

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

By Kerry Greening Herbal Detoxification is one of the key methods that people use to restore health and eliminate chemical toxins from their systems. There are many detoxification products on the market today. One of the best ways to eliminate toxins is with a herbal cleanse and supporting your body’s nutritional needs with nutrietns that support cellular health. By conducting a herbal detoxification and continually feeding your body’s cells and systems the nutrients and antioxidants it requires to constantly remove toxic chemicals that are invading your cells and tissues you can regain your health. Body Detoxification Plan In March 2001, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) unveiled the “National Report on Human Exposure to Environmental Chemicals”, their first report on the level of 27 different toxins found in a cross-section of the U.S. population. You are exposed to toxins no matter which way you put it, not matter where you live. They are in your home, in your water, in the air you breathe, in the foods that you eat. Did you know that whenever you take a prescription or non prescription drug you are putting toxins in your body? Whenever you drink chlorinated water treated with fluoride, you are putting toxins into your body? How extensive are the added health risks? Nobody really knows. What is known is that toxic load is a cause of concern to many experts in the field of public health. It has long been known that exposure to environmental pollutants and toxic agents are increasing and that this was unlikely to be good for anyone’s health. Chemical exposures are stored in your bodys tissues. These chemicals, along with negative emotions and stress, produce an extremely adverse affect on your body. One of the best ways to eliminate toxins is through a body cleansing detoxification program. Debilitators include, but are not limited to the following: heavy metals (mercury-amalgam fillings and fish are a major source), unnatural skin and hygienic products, antacids, toxic sprays such as pesticides, herbicides, other cides, paint fumes, and more. Low-level exposures to these substances put our bodies under tremendous stress, perhaps on a daily basis. New technology had made it possible to measure the actual toxic load carried in the bodies of Americans, not just the toxins to which they were exposed. This is just the beginning. The CDC states that this survey will be conducted annually with the addition of 25 toxins each year. Soon we will have data on about 100 toxic chemicals present in our bodies. What will be missing for some time to come is the overall clinical significance of the presence of such toxins. As an example, the Canadian Medical Association journal reported in 1999 that the incidence of some cancers affecting young males had risen 60% during the last 30 years and the evidence indicated that this increase was directly attributable to environmental pollutants. On January 30, 2003, the EWG published “Body Burden-the Pollution in People, the first study to thoroughly analyze the amounts of synthetic chemicals in the human body. In “Body Burden-the Pollution in People,” the EWG found a disturbing average of 91 different chemical agents in the people they tested and whats worse, these toxins continue to rise. Do you know that the governments are actually forced to set acceptable levels of PCBs, dioxins, DDT, herbicides and many others in many of the foods and food supplements on the market today. They studied a few individuals only 9. Of those 9 subjects none of them worked with chemicals, their bodies contained a vast array of synthetic substances. Altogether, EWG researchers identified a total of 167 different industrial chemicals, pollutants and pesticides in their subjects. Many of these toxic chemicals in the study have multiple side effects, and previous studies indicate that even low doses adversely affect various organs and systems. Is it any wonder we see disease conditions rising through the roof? In these reports, here is what they found: 94 are known neurotoxins 86 are reported to disrupt endocrine functions 79 are associated with birth defects and abnormal development 77 affect reproduction 77 affect the immune system 76 can be linked to cancer Being exposed to Any One of these chemicals poses a serious health threat. Educate yourself and become fully aware of what these chemicals are and how they harm you. The EWG Web site (www.ewg.org) provides a wealth of information for consumers, including lists of toxin-free cosmetic products and information about pesticides in produce. Chemicals are abound in our modern environment How can we avoid them? The simple answer is that we cannot. What Can You Do To Combat the Ongoing Battle of Toxins? You can actively participate in maintaining our own good health. You need to strengthen your immune system. The main root causes of virtually all disease is exposure to chemicals and toxins, nutritional deficiencies, mental and emotional stress, lack of proper exercise and a lack of pure clean water. The key to maintaining a healthy body begins at the level of the cell and providing your body the tools it needs to remove the toxins from your body. Everyone needs to cleanse themselves at least one to two times per year. Start with the Master Detox Program. TLearn about a four step Detox Program for a thorough body cleansing and detoxification. It contains the Intestinal Purifier, Cellular Purifier, Intestinal Protector, and Probiotic Complex. The Golden Rule When Reviewing and Choosing an Optical Telescope

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

By James Hughson Imagine the world at your fingertips. The power to see as far as the imagination can see but only this time it is not a daydream. The experience is brought to you through your own two eyes! How can this be possible you say? Well, through the Optical Telescope, the things that seemed like dreams become reality. For many, investing in a telescope is the next big step when you have outgrown your binoculars. It was one thing to see so many things magnified from a distance with the binoculars but the Optical Telescope brings you to another level of closeness. With its larger proportions the Optical Telescope’s capabilities can be as far reaching as outer space such that the planets and stars no longer look like a twinkle in the sky but rather masses of land with textured surfaces. Before you get onto enjoying the experience the Optical Telescope brings, it is important to determine what kind of telescope is best suited to you. Considerations are money, size, space where you will mount it and purpose. Perhaps a place to start is with a test-drive. Contact several retailers or clubs and try the binoculars out. Ask questions about size, the types of lenses that are available and costing. The purpose of this exercise is to gain an understanding on the qualities of telescopes available and be able to ascertain where the value is added or removed when the prices, brands and size of the telescope differ. At the end of the day, you need to keep your sights firmly focused on what you want to get out of having a telescope. Examining the features of all telescope is on thing however quite pertinent is the reason you want or need one. When you stay true to your values you will find the right telescope for you. More Than 700,000 People Die Annually From Medical Procedures

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Dorothy_M._Neddermeyer,_PhD] Dorothy M. Neddermeyer, PhD Drs. Gary Null, Carolyn Dean, Martin Feldman, Debora Rasio and Dorothy Smith, authors of Death by Medicine report in their groundbreaking research that 783,936 people die every year in the United States from conventional medicine mistakes. This is the equivalent of six jumbo jet crashes a day for a year. Of the 783,936 annual deaths due to conventional medical procedures, about 106,000 are from prescription drugs, according to Death by Medicine. That is a conservative number, because of underreported cases of adverse drug reactions some experts estimate that approximately 200,000 deaths occur annually. This staggering number is a significant increase in the number of deaths reported by The Journal of the American Medical Association Vol. 284 July 26, 2000, documenting the tragedy of Traditional Western Medicine (TWM) paradigm. The author, Dr. Barbara Starfield of Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health describes how the U.S. health care system may contribute to poor health. Doctors, she stated, are the third leading cause of death in the U.S., causing 250,000 deaths every year. Where is the media attention to this tragedy? Where is the government demand to stop these medical mistakes? Money is the main reason: Dr. John Abramson reported in his book, Overdosed in America, that over $3 billion was spent on pharmaceutical advertising in 2003therefore, the media is loath to report the truth about one of what may well be their most lucrative advertisers. The medical and pharmaceutical industry is allowed to run unabated, because the pharmaceutical and health products industry spent more than $800 million in federal lobbying and campaign donations at the federal and state levels, a Center for Public Integrity investigation reported. Its lobbying operation, on which it reports spending more than $675 million, is the biggest in the nation. No other industry has spent more money to sway public policy in the same period. Representing 48 pharmaceutical companies, PhRMA has 20 registered lobbyists on staff and has contracted with dozens of lobby and PR firms. Pharmaceuticals are a $1 trillion industry. It’s an amazing statistic. Some of the largest corporations in the United States are drug companies. The top 10 pharmaceutical companies in the United States earn more money than the remaining 490 Fortune 500 companies. Prescribing more drugs and recommending more surgeries means more profits for the pharmaceutical companies and physicians. Getting more drugs approved by the FDA, regardless of their safety, means more money for the pharmaceutical and physician industry. Physicians and pharmaceutical companies seem to believe they are entitled to huge profits, even if a few hundred thousand people lose their lives in the process. Even in cases of drug recall, everyone involved has a scapegoat: Pharmaceutical companies blame the FDA for approving the product and the doctors for over-prescribing it, and doctors can blame the patients for wanting it and not properly weighing the risks. A 1995 U.S. iatrogenic report revealed, “Over a million patients are injured in U.S. hospitals each year, and approximately 280,000 die annually as a result of these injuries. The iatrogenic death rate dwarfs the annual automobile accident mortality rate of 45,000 and accounts for more deaths than all other accidents combined.” This report, issued 10 years ago, when America had 34 million fewer citizens and drug company scandals, like the Vioxx recall were yet to occur. Health care comprises 15.5 percent of the United States’ gross national product, with spending reaching $1.4 trillion in 2004. Approximately 2.2 million US hospital patients experience adverse drug reactions (ADRs) to prescribed medications each year. In 1995, Dr. Richard Besser of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimated the number of unnecessary antibiotics prescribed annually for viral infections to be 20 million; in 2003, Dr. Besser believes tens of millions of unnecessary antibiotics are prescribed annually. Approximately 7.5 million unnecessary medical and surgical procedures are performed annually in the US, while approximately 8.9 million Americans are hospitalized unnecessarily. The majority of Americans have bought into the pharmaceutical clever ads that every medical issue has a quick fix. Pharmaceutical companies make a pill for every conceivable ailmentreal or not there are pricey prescription drugs to “treat” it. When I remind people that every prescription drug has a plethora of serious side effects worse than what ails them, they are insulted. The ads, for the drug was subliminally worded to psychologically indoctrinate the listener to believe in its magical powers and to buy it. The belief becomes, anything is better than nothingalbeit there are side effects. Americans go to the doctor’s office oblivious of the danger they’re walking into. People know that medical errors occur, unfortunately due to little reporting they assume that errors are unusual, isolated events. Unfortunately, by accepting conventional medicine, people voluntarily continue to walk into what could be the cause of their own death. “The surgery was a successthe patient died.” What to do? Become informed. Read, Read, Read. Stop listening to pharmaceutical ads. Pharmaceutical ads are created with one goal in mindconvince you to buy the product so the company can make money. You, the consumer, are secondary to their goal of making money. Of course, ads are cleverly worded to make you believe your needs are primary. Don’t be fooled by these profit making enterprises. How to Make Rubber Stamps: Comparing Methods of Manufacture

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

By Robert De Rooy Vulcanized Rubber Stamps The traditional red rubber stamp that everybody is familiar with will have been manufactured in a vulcanizing press. The first rubber stamp vulcanizing press was patented in 1890 by Charles Schultze in New Orleans USA. Vulcanizing is today one of the most cost effective methods of making rubber stamps for mass produced stamps. Each batch of stamps is produced using a mould. This method of manufacture is more suited to stamp making where the same moulds are used over and over again. Making custom made stamps with a vulcanizing press requiring ‘once only’ moulds will drive the cost of manufacture up significantly. Making the mould - before a mould can be made you must have a master plate manufactured from metal or polymer, the master plate has the necessary relief (the artwork is raised) to make an impression in the mould. Having a master plate made each time a mould is required is what drives up the cost of manufacture for vulcanized stamps. Pressing the master plate into a Matrix board creates the mould that will accept the rubber. Heat and pressure is applied to the master plate and matrix board inside a Vulcanizing press. The Matrix follows the shape of the relief provided by the master plate, this then hardens on cooling. Making Rubber Stamps - Creating stamps is a simple process once the mould is made. Raw rubber stamp gum is placed on top of the mould and then placed inside the stamp press. Hydraulic pressure is placed upon the rubber and the mould from within the stamp press causing the rubber to melt into the areas of the mould that contain the images and text, curing and hardening takes about 10 minutes. Once cured the sheet of rubber is pulled away from the mould and cut up into individual stamps to be affixed to mounts. Cost of a vulcanizing system is approximately $12,000 AUD Advantages - Low cost of production for mass produced stamps, good ink transfer. Disadvantages - Cost of producing master plates and moulds for custom made stamps. Laser Engraved Rubber Stamps The traditional raw rubber used for vulcanizing stamp dies is quite unacceptable for the production of laser stamp dies, the laser process requires a very even thickness and blemish free surface to produce an acceptable printed image from a stamp die. The rubber must also be subjected to a specific curing process before it can be exposed to the elevated temperature of a laser beam. The depth of the engraving is determined by the laser speed, its wattage and the density of the rubber. For example, a 50 or 100W engraver will engrave the rubber deeper and faster than a 25W machine, which may require a second pass to achieve a similar result. Usually supplied in an A4 size sheet form, a good quality laser rubber is required for engraving stamp dies and must also have suitable compression strength and ink transfer properties. To assist the engraving process, it is necessary to remove the excess dust which is constantly created by the laser cutting action with an efficient exhaust filtration system. As very few, if any, CO2 laser engraving machines were initially purpose built for engraving and cutting rubber, installing and maintaining an effective dust extraction system pays long term dividends. Mirrors, lenses and any exposed bearing surfaces should be cleaned thoroughly as part of a regular maintenance program. Any neglect in this area will be detrimental to overall trouble free laser operation, as the build up of dust and residue will affect running efficiency and the quality of the finished stamp die. Lasers are controlled directly from a computer, the software drivers supplied with lasers work with many graphic programs such as CorelDraw. Approximate cost of a 25 watt Laser suitable for stamp making is $40,000 Advantages - Production is computer controlled, custom made stamps can be made easily Disadvantages - High capital investment, maintenance costs and running will be much higher than vulcanizing or polymer methods of manufacture. Liquid Polymer Rubber Stamps Converting rubber stamp polymer from a liquid into a solid to make stamps is quite fascinating. Polymer stamps are manufactured between two sheets of glass using precision controlled UV light which passes through a negative containing the stamp artwork solidifying the polymer. Negative production has been simplified with the introduction of water based negative technology, photographic chemicals for producing negatives are now a thing of the past. The first step in making polymer rubber stamps is to print your images, clipart or text onto Vellum, an almost transparent paper like film.To produce quality stamp artwork you must use a laser printer, inks from bubble jet printers are translucent allowing UV light to pass where it should not. Water based negatives are easily washed out after being exposed for a few minutes in a UV exposure stamp machine. Polymer contained in a sachet is now replacing the older cumbersome method of using foam tape to create a dam and pouring of rubber stamp polymers, the sachets have also addressed the age old problem of removing air bubbles from the poured polymer. The negative of your artwork and polymer sachet is sandwiched between two sheets of glass spaced 2-3mm apart which is then exposed in the machine for a few minutes. Once you have completed the exposure it is a simple process of cutting open the sachet and washing away the excess unexposed polymer before returning the stamp die back to the machine for a 10 minute curing. Once the stamps are cured they can be cut up individually. Polymer sachets are available in a range of sizes up to A4 size. Processing time is about 30 minutes for a batch of polymer stamps. Cost of polymer stamp making machines range from $3,500 AUD for an Australian made unit designed specifically for stamp making up to high end imported units with computer controlled washout for $15,000 AUD. Advantages - Lower capital investment, polymers make almost clear stamps making them ideal for scrapbooking and card making. Stamp relief can be easily controlled during exposure. Disadvantages - Early polymers did not accept inks as well as polymers available today, this along with being new technology caused initial resistance to polymer stamps. Summary Most large stamp manufacturers have a mix of the above equipment. The unmounted rubber stamp dies produced with any of these manufacturing methods can be cut up and affixed to simple hand stamps, dater stamps or self inking stamps. Craft stamps are usually affixed to wooden blocks or in the case of polymer stamps affixed to clear acrylic blocks with adhesives or InstaGrip mounting mat. Various manufactures produces stamp mounts. Astron Industries in Australia manufacturer the clear hand stamp ‘Vuestamp’ and also distribute the Ideal range of self inking mounts. Other brands of self inking mounts are Trodat, Colop and Shiny. Robert de Rooy is based in Australia and has been involved with the rubber stamp industry in the Pacific region for over ten years, he has provided consultation to the development of http://www.stampsearch.com.au and operates http://www.instastamp.com.au a web site about making rubber stamps. The Simplest Asthma Solution

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

By Ralph DeAmicis During the Democratic convention the Reverend Al Sharpton quoted a shocking statistic: One third of the children in Harlem suffer from asthma. This shouldnt be completely surprising since asthma cases have been consistently increasing over the years, especially in the cities, escalating recently during the rollback of some key environmental laws, but it is a trend we must turn back. While parents have only limited control over the environmentwhere they raise their children, there is a personal environmental decision they can make that may dramatically reduce the symptoms their children experience. It all comes down to detergent, and not just any detergent. It is the detergent that they use to wash their childrens clothes and sheets. The biggest selling detergents in the United States contain large amounts of irritating phosphates, which are not only a major irritant to the skin and respiratory system, but a source of serious pollution, and a component in global warming. If you are wondering if your laundry detergent contains phosphates just read the label, it is listed there. In most industrialized countries phosphate detergents are outlawed for good reason, but in the United States the chemical industry has a strong lobby and cheap phosphates help manufacturers keep their costs low, so their use continues. The next time you walk though the laundry detergent section of your supermarket, take a deep breath and notice how much the smell irritates your nose and lungs. What kinds of detergent contain low, or no phosphates? Baby detergent! No mother would dream of washing their newborns clothes and sheets in the familys powdered detergent! That would give their babys delicate skin rashes, not to mention an increase in crying and crankiness. There are many readily available natural detergents that are phosphate-free and its worth the time to find them. We have noticed tremendous improvements for both children and adults when their clothes and sheets are consistently washed in a phosphate-free detergent. By itself this change may not alleviate all of the symptoms of asthma and those related skin rashes, but it clearly removes an insidious irritant fromthe equation. It might be helpful to explain why this simple change is so effective. Testing in Europe shows that, while sleeping, people are between two thousand and ten thousand times more sensitive to chemical and electromagnetic pollution than while they are awake. When a childs pajamas are washed with a chemical irritant and they sleep on bedclothes containing those same toxins, their immune system is challenged nightly, during a time when they are most vulnerable. Their bodys nutritional reserves are consumed in that battle and they are less able to defend themselves from the pollutants they encounter during their day. Asthma and allergies are not produced by a single irritant, but by an accumulation of minor irritants that eventually overwhelm the bodys ability to adapt. It is not a huge leap to imagine that removing a respiratory irritant from the sleeping environment, where a person spends one third of their time, is going to produce an improvement in a childs ability to breathe. Losing Weight - The Power of Association

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

By Ken Crawford Confession Time Ok, it’s confession time. When I was young, there were some kids that I used to hang out with for hours during the summer or after school playing basketball. Those were some of the most enjoyable times of my life. Unfortunately, I can also recall each and every one of us cursing like sailors whenever we were together. While our vulgar language was essentially harmless but certainly not acceptable in polite company, many still became quite skilled at intertwining profanity in such a way that it made everything they said funnier than it would have been without it. The oddity of it all was how the profanity we used would disappear from our vocabulary whenever we were in the company of our parents. Junior hypocrites, you might say, and most of us know that cursing in the presence of your parents is probably not in your best interest either. Boys Will Be Boys My buddies and I all used profanity as the result of association. We simply influenced each other to the point whereby not only was it acceptable — it was expected. Just as you will find that scholars hang out with scholars, reading enthusiasts are drawn to other readers, and criminals tend to hang around fellow thugs. Eaters Will Be Eaters If you are struggling with a weight management issue you may be a member of a group of fellow eaters. This could be just one person or several comrades — all of whom help each other to stay fat. Making A List The solution is to redefine the nature of your relationship. You may have to sit down with those colleagues in the “fat brigade” who have been helping you stay plump. Jointly make a list of the excuses you have all been making that have been keeping each of you from losing weight. Then come up with an action and accountability plan to help each other make healthy lifestyle changes. Perhaps together as a group you could begin some sort of exercise program or make a resolution to stop dining together. Hand Made Soaps

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

By Marcus Peterson When it’s time to purchase your next bar of soap, you may want to consider purchasing handmade soaps from a small company or consider making them yourself. Handmade soaps are often higher quality because more care is taken when choosing the ingredients. Handmade soaps are also unique because the scents and colors depend largely on the artistry of the crafter. Making your own handmade soap can be very rewarding. You are in complete control in terms of which ingredients to choose. You can use scents that are all natural and ingredients that are organic. You can choose natural dyes to color the soap, or you can choose synthetic scents and colors. The one ingredient that needs to remain constant is lye. If you would like to make a bar soap, you need the lye because it is responsible for the solid shape and the lather. You also have your choice of molds. Most craft stores have soap-making supplies, or you can order the supplies online. Once you choose your ingredients, it is time to assemble the soaps. The basic process is to mix all the ingredients and then pour them into a mold. However, working with lye can be tricky. You will need to wear gloves and goggles and have something to protect your face. For specific recipes and more about the soap-making process, you can check online or get a book from the library or bookstore. When your soaps are finished, you can find several different uses for them. You can either use them yourself or give them as gifts. When packaged nicely, they can make an excellent addition to a gift basket. They work well in baskets with beauty supplies, chocolates, and even herbal teas. The possibilities are almost endless. Soaps provides detailed information on Soaps, Glycerin Soaps, Hand Made Soaps, Natural Soaps and more. Soaps is affiliated with Free Shampoo Samples.
